Description
In this large-format volume, Lloyd, aerial photographer and photojournalist (Our Voices, Our Land), presents the splendors of the Colorado Plateau, the desert region sacred to Native Americans that encompasses parts of Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado and Utah. His glorious photographs capture the color, light and drama of those spectacular lands and their many natural wonders: Canyonlands, Petrified Forest, Grand Canyon, Arches, Bryce Canyon and Mesa Verde national parks, as well as the Painted Desert and Monument Valley. The accompanying text contains celebratory quotations from Native Americans and excerpts from descriptions of the area by Barry Lopez, Terry Tempest Williams, Joseph Wood Krutch and other well-known nature writers. In a prologue and a final section, Lloyd describes his experiences as a photographer soaring above this astonishing landscape.
